Don May - Violin
Don is a reader and very experienced violinist who lives on a narrow
boat with his cat "maisie". He has played at
various jazz festivals and events and is always busy for St.
Patrick's weekend and Burns night as he can play all the Irish and
Scottish tunes required as well as jazz. He also plays French/ Edith
Piaf music if requested, to suit the occasion. Does a lot of work in
the Chester area and the Peak district. Has an electric-only violin
made especially for him. Brian Hall - Guitar
Brian plays guitar (and bass guitar) also a reader, who had success
with a song "Amanda" for which he composed the lyrics and music and
which reached number 16 in the top 20, sung by Stuart Gillies. Can
play various styles of guitar music; worked the cabaret circuit
during the club years; plays at various venues in the Merseyside and
Cheshire area; played with professional jazz guitarist Jim Douglas;
has his own studio set-up at home, also has a good singing voice. John Muskett - Bass
John plays bass but started his musical career on guitar later
switching to bass when he found himself in a band with two other
guitarists and no bass! Reads music and plays with a driving 4/4/
style. Has played at the Keswick jazz festival, and in various
traditional jazz, swing and gypsy jazz bands for many years. Has his
own trio and quartet and lists Jimmy Blanton and Ray Brown among his
favourite bass players. John Blackman - Drums
John plays various styles of drumming, reads music, has played many
times at Keswick and the Warner Hotels jazz weekends. Started
playing when a teenager in his father's dance band; helped form a
rock and roll group to play at the Cavern, then became part of a
cabaret act working the club circuit through agencies before
settling as resident drummer backing professional artistes in
various clubs. Finally he was asked to join the WirrOrleans jazz
band in 1992 and is able to play the music he prefers. Main
influences are Ron McKay and Gene Krupa.
