Mike Daly's Dixieland Rhythm Kings

 

 

10/01/22 - We sadly lost Jack Murray two years ago, Duncan Nairn is no longer playing and Tommy Evans has had a stroke, but is still playing. Kit Carey is still working with us, as is Bobby Orr, when we get a gig that requires a drummer! We have Ian Boyter playing clarinet and saxophone with us now - Mike Daly

THE RHYTHM KINGS


MIKE DALY Cornet

Mike started playing cornet at 13 years old and fell in love with jazz after hearing Bix Beiderbecke and Bobby Hackett. Played in a band with local school friends before meeting trumpet player Duncan Whyte whom he worked with till the end of his career. Apart from playing jazz he has worked with numerous show bands and backed caberet throughout the UK. He is also the founding member and leader of the Rhythm Kings Jazz Band.

 


KIT CAREY Banjo/Vocals

Kit started his playing career with the Bourbon Jazz band, and in 1963 joining Trombonist Jimmy Abercrombie’s ‘No Mean City Jazz band, with whom he played for the next five years. Kit also toured Canada and the UK with the Clyde Valley Stompers.
In 1985 he formed the ‘Kit Carey Jazz band’ and in addition to the gig scene played at most of the Scottish Jazz Festivals and had a resident spot at the Glasgow Garden Festival.

 


TOMMY EVANS  Bass

Tommy has performed with and backed many famous musicians including
Ruby Braff, Martin Talylor, Acker Bilk and Bud Freeman to name just a few. He provides an excellent driving bass which keeps the music alive.
 

IAN BOYTER Clarinet and Saxophone


BOBBY ORR Drums

Bobby is resident with Bedford Mainline Big Band and Three other Mainstream bands in the Bedford/Bucks area but also enjoys playing in Scotland, joining Mike Daly’s Rhythm Kings Jazz Band.

 


JOHN FENNER Guitar

John’s first gigs were playing the interval at George Webbs Shakespeare jazz club with Pete Robinson and Barry Guy in 1963. Played on the liners in the 60s. In 1978 played guitar with the Cambridge City Jazz Band recording with Bud Freeman and Wild Bill Davison. 1979 joined Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen
