Ian Maullin
Ian started on cornet with his school before joining the Burnley Youth Band. He spent 3 years as an army musician playing euphonium and trombone before attending music college. From there he moved on to see a great deal of the world by playing professionally on the big ships (e.g. Canberra and the QE2.). Family commitments called and settled back down again in Burnley - becoming a regular member of the Pendle Jazzmen, for a time, before leaving to study for a degree in music at Salford University. Ian has a great deal of experience ranging from brass band, symphony orchestras and big bands as well as small jazz groups. Occasionally he uses an interesting (and unusual) attachment which changes his instrument into a valve trombone. He is always a warmly welcomed addition when he can play with us although the heavy demands of his new career in teaching means he has less time for personal performance than he would like. - Colin Mason
