Lawrence Canty RIP 17/12/23

Yesterday we lost a legend. My Dad Laurence Canty died 17th December 2023 around coffee time.
We have known this day has been coming for a few weeks as he has been constantly sleeping and progressively eating less.
I am doing ok. A sense of relief to know that he is no longer suffering. But it certainly hurts that he is now gone.
He was an amazing dad who taught me to appreciate the world and to have a keen interest in everything I do. I've heard many people refer to him as a great teacher who always had a wise thing to say.
I'll update with details of funerals and celebrations in due course.

Matthew Canty

Laurence Canty passed away yesterday, December 17th.

With his love of The Shadows we always enjoyed getting Laurence up to play Apache with us, as he is here at our Birthday gig in 2017.    His legacy will live on, particularly since his son Matt is now a member of the Clowns extended family, filling in for Ash on bass occasionally & bringing all the skills & groove his father taught him.

Laurence you will be sorely missed & we extend our humblest condolences to Matt & his family.

Sadly we just lost a local legend, Bass guitar player Laurence Canty a well respected local musician, he played a good amount of different kinds of music including jazz, he played with my band on a few occasions, he played as a permanent member of The Les Bull Jazz Band that says a lot for his quality of his playing, Here is a picture I took of him.

RIP Laurence.

Incredibly saddened that our dear friend Laurence Canty has passed away. For over a decade, I did lots of gigs with Laurence (including a panto season) and published his bass tuition book ‘Electric Bass Guitar – The Complete Guide' which was beautifully presented by Paolo. Described as "the best bass tuition book on the market" it was forwarded by Laurence’s ex bass pupils Colin Greenwood (of Radiohead fame) and Yolanda Charles (of Robbie Williams, Paul Weller, Gabrielle fame). My heart goes out to Laurence’s son Matthew and to all the musicians (Fred, Helen, Amy, Eddie, etc) who worked with him over the years. Laurence was a great bassist, inspirational bass teacher and an absolute gentleman.

RIP LC ❤️

Thank you all for the kind messages about my dad; each one is so appreciated. As you can imagine, it has been a hectic week for me getting everything organised before Christmas.

Laurence Canty's funeral will be at Beetham Hall Crematorium on Monday 15th January at 3.30pm.

If you are unable to attend the crematorium, you will still be welcome at the wake which will be held at Toll House Inn in Lancaster from 5pm.
To help us cater for the wake it would be appreciated if you could let me know that you are coming by getting in touch via Facebook, email or phone.

Matt
