The Firehose 1 Jazzmen
Welcome to the focusing,
first and foremost on musicianship and entertainment, bringing the
fun back into jazz. The band plays Dixieland jazz, in that
contagious, joyous style of the American 1950's Dixieland band the
'Fire House 5 + 2', 'Good ole Goodtime Jazz'. music that sets
'Toes-a-tapping' and 'Will-bring-many-a-smile!' were formed in 2011
(what a time to form a 7 piece band - recession and all that!) But
we all need cheering up, so here we are. I thought that there was a
need for such a band on the British Jazz scene, bringing to life
that `Hot' exciting music of the 1920's and 30's. Finding the right
musicians was quite a task, the personnel coming from far and wide,
musicians of a high calibre who understand Dixieland jazz. The guys
in the band have been on the jazz scene for many years, great
experience between them, as you will hear on our first CD. Do come
along we would like to see you if you see us billed anywhere.

Dave Crosley
Personality, excellent trombone and vocalist - that's Dave. Dave's
career started in the Salvation army at the tender age of 9 and
within three years was playing in the local dance band. Served with
T/A band for 3 years. Played in bands at theatre and Mecca clubs and
Jazz bands. Dave has a very tasteful trombone style, from the early
jazz to today's smoother style of trombone playing. 'A man for all
seasons!' |

Dennis
Goodwin
Easy going Yorkshire lad until) he gets behind his vintage "Hayman"
drum kit! A good solid, hard swinging drummer he helps to drive
along the "Fire Hose 1 Jazzmen" to add that unique feel to the band.
A great showman too, a born drummer giving 110% Dennis has been
around all types of bands throughout his playing career, new to jazz
bringing fresh ideas and feel - a swinger) |

Matt Palmer
Matt started learning clarinet at age 15, soon becoming a keen jazz
fan. Soon to be sitting in with jazz bands in the Nottingham area.
His full time career in music came in 1995 when he became resident
at the Alton Towers Theme Park with the resident jazz band, becoming
the band leader in his final season (1997). Played abroad several
times in the late 1990's in Gran Canaria appearing at the jazz
festival held there. He played for the Brittany Ferries Line on a
regular basis. Matt runs his own bands, is a very popular musician
everywhere with many bands, playing both clarinet & saxes (not to
mention a very good M.C and vocalist.) A great personality to have
with any band - we are very lucky to have him! |

Malcolm
Hogarth
A great musician to have in the 'Fire Hose 1 Jazzmen', his style
certainly adds to the sound of the band. Malcolm began playing jazz
at age 13, entirely on his own and from music. He started playing
seriously when he joined the Anchor Jazz Band in Brighouse in 1975,
But it was when his day-time job petered out in 1991 that he played
really seriously, to finish paying his mortgages. Now (at 107) he's
out to enjoy himself until the big crunch, and so gives of his all
to the Fire Hose One Jazzmen, The Merseysippi Jazz Band, The Blue
Magnolia Jazz Band, Jazz Rag, Dennis Armstrong's Great Northern Jazz
Band, Dave Brennan's Jubilee Band, The Deeside Dixies, etc, etc. A
very busy musician indeed! |

Dave
Leithead
Started playing trumpet at age 11, playing in the school band and
orchestra and eventually in the Nottinghamshire County Youth
Orchestra. Formed his own jazz band in 1962. In the late 1960's and
70's played in various Midlands Jazz outfits. He played at many jazz
festivals at home and abroad. In Dave's musical career he has played
alongside such jazz notables as Billy Butterfield / Warren Vache /
Ken Peplowski / Art Hodes / Howard Alden / Al Fairweather / George
Melly. It is a pleasure to have Dave in the band - and a very good
vocalist he is too! |
