Bryan Jones
Died 14th February 2013

More sad news. Pianist/arranger/Bandleader Bryan Jones died last night fter a long illness.

Bryan led a big band in the Midlands area for forty years and I played in it for about eighteen of them. Several musicians from the North-West played with the band. Bryan was a lovely man, wrote great 'charts' and was an excellent pianist in both big bands and small groups.

Like so many other musicians over a very wide area, I am saddened to learn of the loss of Pianist/Arranger - Bryan Jones. Over many years I have been very aware of his contribution to the music scene through his love of 'Big Band' music. I have listened with joy to some of the finest musicians in the west Midlands and North-west, as they played the dynamic arrangements produced by Bryan. His presence at the piano was exemplary, and I always envied his technique and style.

I still owe Bryan a debt of gratitude since he was instrumental (a nice word!) in introducing me to the late Roy Castle, when he invited me to compere a Concert many years back at Ellesmere Port Town Hall, leading to a long and happy association with Roy.

In later years I shared the 'piano stool' with Bryan when we joined the Wall City Jazz Band in Chester. He was 'one of a kind' and will be greatly missed
