Brian Gordon RIP 18/02/22
18/02/22 - I just got some very sad news - Brian Gordon, one of the most important people in my life who set me off on my jazz career when he asked me to play for his band (The Lune Valley Vintage Jazz Band), died today. It was through Brian that I met Alan Duckles, which led to The Sun St. Stompers, The New Riverside Jazz Band and The Quayside Hot Stompers, RIP Brian. - Barrie Marshall
I remember Brian - the very first jazz musician apart from Mike Deighan that I ever listened to, and met. His band played a gig in Morecambe - could have been at the Albambra or the Floral Hall - in a back room in the early days of the Trad era. Caused quite a stir in the local press. I was about 16 or 17 at the time, so would have been in 1960 or 61. He obviously had a great musical life and influence. - Will Fly (Facebook). Another one gone. What a shame. I do hope that Another generation, in their late teens and early twenties are jazzing up to carry the standard and replace these lost stalwarts. We were delighted in our days in The JOG to be able to provide a launching pad for the likes of Adrian Wilkinson, Jim Swinnerton, Danny Riley, Arno Bakker and numerous others that went on to greater things and are now the middle generation. God Speed Brian and thanks for the memories. - Steve Thorn (Facebook). I'm very sad to hear this. Sit ins with the LVVJB were a key part of my start in jazz too, and I found Brian was always unfailingly jolly and amiable. - Sue Parish (Facebook) A nice man and great stalwart of jazz in Lancaster and Morecambe. Brendan Cronin Wonderful tributes of a wonderful man my he rest in peace and rise in glory I was bridesmaid at his wedding Gillian Holmes Very sorry to read this. RIP Brian. Pete Lindup |
