A welcome return for Matt's newly formed band. Their performance in
November last year was terrific.Young(ish) Matt is the driving force in
the band with his brilliant clarinet and sax playing. Matt does some
great Sidney Bechet numbers like Petite Fleur, The 6 piece band covers a
wide range of early jazz from bluesy New Orleans stuff to a swing era
medley. Jules Aldridge, the very impressive young drummer who was with
the band last time is due to be with us again. All very professional .
Note: Brian Carrick is currently out of action. He was hospitalised with
a serious spinal problem but is now on the mend and intends to return to
playing next year.
BENNETT'S OLD GREEN RIVER BAND
This widely travelled and distinctive sounding band brings vibrant life
to early blues and jazz. This band develops its programme and is never
boring. A 6 piece band. Long time visitors to Roa Island. The band's
appearance at Roa Island will include Alex Clarke, the very promising
young lady saxophonist who came in 2016.

MIKE LOVELL'S 6 IN BAR
This band has played for us several times in the past and put on a very
professional show. The only reason they stopped playing for us was
because we were trying to pack to much into our programme. Your
organiser needs a summer break. He's getting older! Some really
interesting and swinging classic jazz. Willy Entwistle their star reeds
player also plays jazz violin! Good vocals from the musicians.

ALAN BEECHAM'S BAND
Third time at Roa Island we are pleased to re-book Alan's band. We are
still looking for a catchy title. Alan has assembled this 6 piece band
from the best of the talent in the area. The 'area' includes Furness and
stretches as far as Kendal and the Fylde. All very talented. Some
Tipitina style R+B as well as the jazzy numbers. This is very
interesting and entertaining programme. Will keep the jivers jiving.

KEITH NICHOLS HOT FIVE. BOOK
Includes Spats Langham of course. An all star band. A lot of 1920's and
30's dance band jazz. Seriously professional stuff, some of it very
funny like Minnie the Moocher. Keith is also a star ragtime and Harlem
stride piano player. Spats does his own brilliant thing, early Bing
Crosby etc. The band are now working some very good blues into the
programme. Nick Ward's drumming is ideally suited to this sort of thing.
Trevor Whiting, reeds playing is terrific. He is in much demand
including playing with the Chris Barber Big Band. Completing the rhythm
section is Richard Vernon, a very good bass player and long time
associate of Spats.
